Taking a long run after work is how I decompress from my day. I look forward to it all day. The first few seconds are rough when I get home and change into my workout gear. I make sure I've
laid out my clothes and I don't sit down. I immediately head out for my run. It's part of my daily routine now.
well, to me it's pretty cut and dry-just make yourself do it...I get home after a long day and all I want to do is veg, but I know I'll kick myself for not getting out there, so I just put on
my workout clothes and go for a walk/run on my road or head to the gym, knowing I'll get into it once I start. I'm always thankful after I do it, and feel so much better! Like the NIKE
commercial says, "JUST DO IT"...
I bring my workout clothes with me to the office and either go to the gym after work, or to run outside, change at work so I don't even go in the house. If I make it inside, it is a lot harder
to head back out for a run, so by not going in the house I save myself from the temptation to stay in.
I also bring my workout clothes with me to work so I don't have to stop at home. But it's particularly easy for me, because I work 45 minutes-an hour away from home, so taking a nice long run/a
class at the gym is the perfect way to "waste time" so that I'm not sitting forever in rush hour!
Yep. I agree with everyone else. Bring your workout clothes with you and change at the office if you can. There's something about stopping at home that just makes it too tempting to sit on the
sofa all night. On stressful or busy days I find myself looking forward to getting away from the computer screen and onto a trail.
it is tough, i usually do my runs in the early morning,,,520am, it sets me up for the day, and i dont have to worry about getting it in after work, but,,,if i have to,,,,once u pass the 5
minute mark, u are usually on your way, and things are good, so yes, just get started , thinking i will just try todo 15 minutes, which more than likely will turn into a full session....
What I do is this --- even before the lazy side of me says, don't do it...I hurriedly change into my running clothes. By the time I know it, I'm thinking --"but I'm already dressed, so might as
well run." hahaha! Weird but this works for me. It's like I'm tricking myslef =p
I get around this by running before work, when possible. It gets harder as we get closer to winter though and have less daylight to work with. I have only been able to get up early enough for
runs of up to 5 miles before work. For longer runs, I do them on the weekends.
When I know I'll be running after work, I lay out my running clothes, shoes, gps watch in a nice little pile before I leave for work so they are waiting for me when I get home. I make myself
change as soon as I get home so I can't get sucked into the computer. I come home before running because we are lucky enough to live near some nice parks and neighborhoods with sidewalks/street
lights; so I don't have to go anywhere to run.
(I also lay my running clothes out the night before when I run in the morning so it's harder to stall or change my mind).
A friend and I were both posting on our facebook statuses when we were running; sometimes just after, sometimes before (i.e. Off to work, then running 8 miles tonight!). It helped us to
motivate each other to keep up with our runs as we were training for a half marathon, and it made me feel accountable to others - if people were asking me about how my running is going, I
better be running, not putting it off!
